Chuck Berry

Chuck Berry was my hero…I wanted to play guitar like him and wanted to write songs like him even though I knew nothing I could come up with would ever come close to his originality, crisp, perfectly crafted lyrics and without knowing I even found myself a great piano player in Daryl Hall just like Chuck found Johnnie Johnson…it wasn’t planned but it happened. Every rock and roller in the world owes a debt to Chuck Berry. His songs will never die…”Hail Hail Rock and Roll.”

I’d like to offer a free download of my version of ” Let It Rock ” from my Mississippi Mile album…

John Oates’ Holiday Wish is Granted with “Santa Be Good To Me”

Memoir Change of Season Planned for 2017

NASHVILLE (Dec. 19, 2016) – Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member John Oates is spreading the holiday cheer with “Santa Be Good to Me,” a swing-inspired original song he recorded with Grammy-nominated band The Time Jumpers.

For those making holiday playlists (and checking them twice), “Santa Be Good to Me” is available on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes and Spotify. Autographed limited-edition singles issued on green vinyl, with the B-side “Children Go Where I Send Thee,” are available at his website.

Rolling Stone premiered “Santa Be Good To Me” in November, calling it a “mellow Yuletide tune about the pursuit of holiday romance.” In December, MusicRow’s Robert K. Oermann awarded it Disc of the Day, proclaiming, “This gets major bonus points for coming to us via a green-vinyl 45 r.p.m. single. With The Time Jumpers on board, you know it has to have the most delightful swing groove. The jazziest yule tune of the year.”

Praise for “Santa Be Good To Me”

“John Oates’ rich voice and amazing lyrics are bound to make this Christmas song a standard in no time.” – Mike McVay, SVP Content & Programming at Cumulus Media

“If you’re searching for a little Christmas magic, ‘Santa Be Good to Me’ sprinkles some of that gold holiday dust all over.”  – No Depression

In August, Hall & Oates received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Looking ahead to 2017, Oates will release his memoir,Change of Seasons, in March on St. Martin’s Press. Wolfgang Gartner has teamed up with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, John Oates, one half of the legendary duo Hall & Oates, for Gartner’s latest single “Baby Be Real.”

The 80s-inspired groove showcases the same nostalgic, dancefloor-driven sonics Gartner produced on his last album 10 Ways To Steal Home Plate, coupled with Oates’ iconic buoyant vocals encouraging listeners to keep it real.

“‘Baby Be Real’ developed from a song idea that I started writing with Josh Charles.  Wolfgang Gartner heard a demo version and liked it enough to build a really pumped-up track around the hook. He jacked up the dance vibe big time, and the record really rocks!  I love what he did with it and can’t wait to hear it on the dance floor!” adds John Oates.

“The opportunity was floated to me to turn this demo into a dance track and mix worlds by combining John’s vocals and my music. I took John’s a cappella and wrote all new music underneath it, going for a sort of late 90’s disco house throwback vibe.  This project was so organic and refreshing for me, as an opportunity to revisit the sound that I grew up on and collaborate with a legend and personal hero,”  says Wolfgang Gartner.

With Wolfgang Gartner at the helm of the “Baby Be Real” beat, Oates dazzles on his electronic music vocalist debut.

John Oates Releases New Holiday Single “Santa Be Good To Me”  Featuring The Time Jumpers

NASHVILLE, TN…Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, John Oates, announces the release of his new Christmas single and collaboration with The Time Jumpers, “Santa Be Good To Me.” Out today, the song is available on the websites: <hallandoates.com> and <johnoates.com> and as a limited edition vinyl single with an option to buy an autographed version. The holiday themed vinyl will also include “Children Go Where I Send Thee” as a b-side. Digital downloads are available at most outlets including iTunes and Amazon

When asked about the inspiration behind the song, Oates replied, “So much has been said when it comes to holiday songs, there is a very narrow frame of references that work in this genre. I’ve always wanted to write and record a swing style song. It reminds me of the music that my folks listened to when I was a young kid. I penned the original version of ‘Santa Be Good To Me’ with Josh Charles, Steven Davis and Alissa Moreno. We tried to write a contemporary lyric talking about trying to find love an companionship in a modern world and still not lose the holiday spirit.”

Nashville’s multi GRAMMY nominated band, The Time Jumpers, are the perfect complement to the timeless sound of the song. The members of “The Time Jumpers” who played on the record, each a master of his instrument, include: Vince Gill (electric guitar), Paul Franklin (steel guitar), Brad Albin (upright bass), Billy Thomas (drums), Kenny Sears (fiddle), Larry Franklin (fiddle), Joe Spivey (fiddle) Andy Reiss (electric guitar) and Jeff Taylor (accordion).

On working with The Time Jumpers Oates adds, “The first time I heard them perform I was blown away by their high level of musicianship and knew someday I wanted to record with them. ‘Santa Be Good To Me’ felt like the perfect song to work on together. We recorded it live in the studio…it was magic…everything I hoped for and more.”

Reverb.com – Song Stories: John Oates’ “Maneater” and “Revenge”

Oates Reverb

John Oates has never been afraid of melding genres. In today’s nostalgia-fueled echo chamber of internet discourse, his work as half of Hall & Oates is as lampooned as it is cherished, but all the Tweets in the world can’t remove the fact that as a band, the pair were always evolving, always experimenting, and never afraid to bring new approaches and equipment to their records.

John plays a blues version of “Maneater” and explains how the song came to be. While in the studio, John also took the time to share one of his newer works, dubbed “Revenge,” along with the songwriting process behind it.
