About the Artist, Derrick Clifton
Derrick Clifton has been drawing since he was very young. While attending college, a professor encouraged him to take a ‘pick something and do it well’ approach with his art. Derrick decided to develop his style by working exclusively with charcoal. In 2005, while living in Colorado, he accepted a commission to draw something that he had always avoided, the portrait of a face. He returned to Nashville in 2006 and began drawing portraits for many clients that share his love for intensely ‘colorful’ black and white art. He has since displayed his portraits in many public galleries, including The Smithsonian Portrait Gallery, the Church Street Gallery in Murfreesboro, and Picture This Gallery in Hermitage, as well as being featured in the Nashville Art Crawl and gracing the walls of many homes and private galleries. Most recently, he has paid tribute to many of his favorite singers and musicians, with his ‘Greatest Singers’ and ‘Greatest Guitarists’ series.
